JOB VACANCY – SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

The Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF) is a quasi-governmental body established by the Government of Belize (GOB) in 1996 with the passage of the Social Investment Fund Act. The BSIF is designed to contribute to reducing poverty in both urban and rural areas through the delivery of small-scale community sub-projects. The entity assists poor local communities in identifying their problems and in deciding which interventions they need as solutions. The fund has implemented numerous sub-projects under various sectors including water and sanitation, health, economic infrastructure, education, social services, and organizational strengthening.

BSIF is seeking to recruit an individual to fill the position of SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR.

Job Summary:

  • The Systems Administrator will be stationed at the BSIF’s headquarters in Belmopan. The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing hardware/software assistance to the SIF Units, maintaining the information systems, and establishing technical/operative guidelines for their use,
    maintenance and the development of the equipment and systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

Practical experience in the design and programming of computer applications, Familiarity with and skill in database managers, Familiarity with and skill in database administering languages, Familiarity with network languages, and excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Preferred Qualification:
    First degree in Information Technology or equivalent qualification.
  • Preferred Experience:
    Training and certifications in a related field with at least five (5) years experience. In possession of at least two (2) recent positive references from one’s immediate supervisor at the time.

Competencies:

  • The ability to demonstrate professional responsibility in fulfilling the requirements of the position. The ability to effectively manage one’s time in a situation of competing demands so as to meet deadlines. The ability to work on own initiative without direct supervision.

Performance Criteria:

  • The performance of the Systems Administrator will be reviewed against but not limited to the following:
  • Quality and timeliness of IT tasks performed. Effectiveness of any assistance and guidance provided to achieve successful and satisfied outcomes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for all IT activities as required by the institution. With specific responsibilities to include the following:

  1. Perform daily checks on the main system to ensure that there is free data flow between units, staff, and offices, and maintain the same with Public, Private, and international agencies.
  2. Update and maintain the BSIF Website.
  3. Assist Staff in software and/or workstation problems e.g. Microsoft Programs and Programs/Applications in use at BSIF.
  4. Troubleshoot and repair servers, computers, and printers for minor hardware problems.
  5. Carry out preventive maintenance to servers, computers, and printers.
  6. Define the necessary information resources, and prepare terms of reference and or technical specifications necessary for the contracting of information resources of BSIF.
  7. Ensure that all SIF’s data is backed up on time.
  8. Recommend to the Executive Director hardware, software, and online improvement for the smooth and safe functioning of the information system.
  9. Prepare monthly status reports to the Executive Director.

Proposed Salary:

Negotiable based on qualification and experience. The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time contractual basis and stationed at BSIF’s Office in Belmopan. The initial contract period shall be two (2) years, extendable by mutual agreement in accordance with prevailing Belize legislation as well as the results of his/her performance appraisal.
