As a young developing nation, Belize continues to grapple with poverty. The fight against poverty is a gigantic task, but it is one which the Government has undertaken with unstoppable vigor because Belizeans deserve a better life.
For the past five years, as part of its Poverty Alleviation Strategy, the Government has consistently invested numerous resources and energy to address the basic human needs of Belize in the areas of education, health, institutional strengthening, water and sanitation, economic infrastructure and social services.
As the Government begins its second term in office, it shall continue to build on its outstanding accomplishments in these areas and intensify its poverty alleviation program by working hand in hand with its social partners in development. In its renewed effort to break the cycle of poverty, Government will ensure that all its programs are always for the benefit of the Belizean people.
As the Minister of State responsible for Economic Development, I welcome you to the Social Investment Fund’s (S.I.F.) website. SIF is the Government’s main implementing agency for social projects aimed at addressing the needs of the poorest of the poor in Belize. It is an organization to which we owe enormous gratitude for its professionalism, dedication and for helping Government to achieve its commitment in making Belize a better place.
Hon. Santiago Castillo
